Whether for activism or beautification, public art remains has long been an essential component in the fabric of the Lower East Side community. So in this installment of Talk&Taste: Evenings at Essex Street Market, we’re featuring professionals on all sides of the spectrum: Natalie Raben, Director of The 100 Gates Project at the Lower East Side Partnership, will be moderating our talk and engaging our panelists, which include Jodi Waynberg, Executive Director of Artists Alliance, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting emerging artists and curators through exhibition opportunities at Cuchifrito’s Gallery + Project Space insideEssex Street Market; Stephen Pierson, Executive Director ofArtBridge, which works with local artists to transform the city’s scaffolding into public art displays; and Gera Lozano, a Brooklyn-based muralist who often uses city spaces as her canvas, including the exterior of Essex Street Market, transforming the 1940s-era building into a colorful, geometric representation of the market’s food items.
